The police department for the city of Liberty, MO. is recruiting for the position of Police Officer. As a commissioned Police Officer, you will ensure safety for the community and be a critical connection working directly with citizens and other first responders during both emergency and non-emergency circumstances.

Essential Functions
Patrol a designated area of the City to preserve law and order, discover and prevent the commission of crimes; enforce traffic and other laws and ordinances; take proactive measures to deter the commission of crime; conduct undercover activities to gather intelligence about the conduct of crime or criminal activities in the City of Liberty.

Respond to general public service calls and complaints including domestic disturbances, civil complaints, property control, automobile accidents, robberies, and related misdemeanor and felony incidents.

Enforce traffic laws and ordinances; check speed with radar; issue warnings and citations; direct traffic at fires, special events, and other emergency or extraordinary incidents.

Conduct traffic accident analyses and general traffic surveys; conduct investigations of serious injury and fatal traffic accidents.

Investigate crimes; gather and preserve evidence; interview victims, complainants and witnesses; identify and interrogate suspects; apprehend and arrest offenders; testify and present evidence and testify in court.

Prepare reports on arrests made, activities performed, and unusual incidents observed.

Maintain custody of prisoners; transfer prisoners to holding facility.

Contact and cooperate with other law enforcement agencies in matters relating to the apprehension of offenders and the investigation of offenses.

Performs other duties as needed to ensure quality municipal services for our citizens.

Salary

Starting salary for POST certified applicants is $56,100/year. Experienced applicants may be considered for step-pay plan credit for previous years of applicable experience.

For applicants hired without POST certification, starting salary is $53,295/year while actively enrolled in the academy and will increase to $56,100/year after graduation from the police academy. Police academy training is paid for by the City of Liberty.

Minimum Qualifications

Anyone interested in becoming a Liberty police officer must meet minimum eligibility requirements. Applicants must:
• Hold US citizenship
• Be 21 years or older at time of hire
• Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Pass all required testing and interviews
• Pass an extensive background check
• Be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays
• College credit, service in the US military or Class A police officer experience is preferred. If no longer active in the military, must have had an honorable discharge.

Education, License or Certificate
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid drivers license.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, appropriate certification as a police officer for the State of Missouri.

Per department policy no illegal drug use within the past twenty-four (24) months prior to application. Tattoos are allowed but subject to review with no tattoos allowed on the neck or face.
