POLICE OFFICER

The City of North Kansas City, Missouri is currently accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. This is an excellent opportunity to serve a progressive community while working in a professional, well-equipped law enforcement agency. Applicants who are POST certified at the time of hire may be eligible for a cash incentive upon successful completion of the Field Training Program. Applicants who are not POST certified will be sponsored by the City to attend a police academy.

Position SummaryPolice Officers perform general law enforcement duties involving the protection of life and property, enforcement of local and state laws, and the investigation of criminal activity.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPatrol city streets, roadways, and public areas on foot, bicycle, or in a patrol vehicleEnforce traffic laws, direct traffic, issue citations, and investigate traffic crashesRespond to calls for service and investigate crimes and incidentsInterview victims, witnesses, and suspects; gather evidence and prepare detailed written reportsApprehend offenders in accordance with constitutional standards and probable cause requirementsDemonstrate proficiency in firearms handling, report writing, oral communication, and use of speed-measuring devicesResolve conflicts and interact professionally with the publicMaintain knowledge of city geography and applicable criminal, traffic, and constitutional lawMake sound decisions under stressful and potentially dangerous conditionsAppear and testify in court as requiredPerform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

Valid driver’s licenseHigh school diploma or GEDPhysical Demands and RequirementsAbility to pass an annual physical examination as required by City policyAbility to qualify with all department-issued firearmsAbility to utilize hand-to-hand defensive tactics to control resistant or combative individuals

POST Certification Incentive

POST certified officers hired by the City are eligible for a $4,000 lump-sum incentive payment following the successful completion of the Field Training Program.Disqualifying Factors for EmploymentApplicants are not eligible for employment if they have:Committed a crime classified as a felony under Missouri law (regardless of conviction status)Four moving violations within four years or two moving violations within a 12-month periodCommitted a domestic violence-related offenseSold narcoticsBeen deceitful or untruthful during an official police investigation or administrative inquiryUsed or possessed any controlled substance that would be classified as a felony under Missouri lawIllegally used any misdemeanor-controlled substance within the past two yearsProvided misleading or false information on the employment applicationNon-felony offenses will be reviewed based on job-relatedness.
