Full and Part-Time Officers
PRIMARY FUNCTION
A police officer is responsible for the enforcement of all State laws and Forsyth City Ordinances. Additionally, police officers are responsible for responding to calls for service in a timely manner, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses and suspects, and making arrests as necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Participates in departmental meetings: receive assignments; receive new policies, procedural changes, case laws, court decisions, patrol assignments, etc.; subject to inspection for adherence to departmental policies and procedures and dress code.
2. Ensures he/she is properly equipped with all equipment needed to carry out job duties; personally inspects weapons in order to ensure that weapons are clean and functioning properly; inspects vehicles and other equipment to ensure safe and proper operation; subject to inspection of same per the chain of command.
3. Performs law enforcement patrol activities including, but not necessarily limited to, MULES/NCIC checks of property or person; records checks on firearms, stolen equipment or wanted/stolen vehicles; assessments of driver’s operational capacities; felony stops; searches for missing, lost or wanted persons.
4. Initiates enforcement actions including but not necessarily limited to: separation of persons involved in domestic disputes; dwelling, building or grounds inspections; vehicle pursuits; detainment of suspect vehicle drivers; alarm responses; arrests; searches of persons, places and property; riot control; subdues resisting offenders using force where appropriate up to and including deadly force.
5. Performs law enforcement investigations including, but not necessarily limited to, recording identifying marks on vehicles, firearms and other objects; preparing and distributing BOLO reports of wanted notices; coordinating activities at accident, crime or investigation scenes; searching buildings or grounds for suspects; establishing identity of suspects; selecting approach and methods for conducting searches; collecting and transporting of crime scene evidence or property; protecting or securing accident, crime or investigation scenes; identifying persons through records, pictures, or identification media; showing mug shots to witnesses or victims.
6. Participates in various other functions relative to investigations including, but not limited to, conducting photo lineups; researching agency records; checking establishments for wanted or missing persons; gathering intelligence on known or suspected offenders; conducting interviews; interrogating suspects; recording sworn statements, formal confessions or depositions; preparing reports or affidavits; presenting testimony and evidence in both civil and criminal court; dusting crime scenes for latent prints and photographing crime scenes.
7. Functions in a public safety capacity including, but not necessarily limited to, obtaining information on injuries to victims and suspects for reports; conducting presentation before public groups; assisting and referring mentally ill, indigent and other persons evidencing need of assistance; physically moving persons, vehicles and other property from unsecured locations; transporting subjects to and from incarceration; administering first-aid to injured persons; administering CPR procedures on appropriate persons; providing security for special functions.
8. Performs traffic related activities including, but not necessarily limited to, examining abandoned vehicles; investigating requests for vehicle tows; informing vehicle owners of legal obligations or procedures regarding vehicle removal; gauging speed of moving vehicles; directing traffic on land or water; observing traffic for violations; conducting traffic stops; investigating and reporting hazardous roadway or waterway damage; controlling parking; issuing citations or warnings; advising offenders in lieu of arrest or citation; rescuing or assisting in rescues of trapped persons; informing persons in accidents regarding reporting and information exchange procedures; explaining legal obligations to vehicle operators; administering field sobriety tests to drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.
9. Completes accident and incident reports and compiles supporting documentation in order to document and explain facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.
10. Interacts with citizens in order to respond to inquiries and complaints, provide advice on proceeding with criminal matters, refer to appropriate public and social services, and to establish rapport and trust; provides death notifications and consolation for the bereaved.
11. Maintains attendance and punctuality within customary tolerances for this position. Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Patrol officers should be able to safely and effectively operate, or be able to be trained to operate, the following devices: Personal Computer Mobile Data Terminal Radios (handheld and in-car types) Firearms (handguns and long guns) Less Lethal Ammunition Emergency Vehicles/Sirens/Emergency Equipment Capture/Restraint Equipment PBT instruments Radar/Lidar Body Cameras Other devices as needed or directed by a supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Possess a minimum of a high school diploma or general education diploma. In Addition, police officers must possess a valid Missouri POST class A or B peace officer license.

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Possess a minimum of a high school diploma or general education diploma. In Addition, police officers must possess a valid Missouri POST class A or B peace officer license.
PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Police officers must be able to successfully complete a Thorough background check, inclusive of criminal history check and fingerprinting. Police officers Are expected to possess the highest degree of personal integrity and excellent work ethic.
