Police Officer - Clever, MO Police Department

The Clever, MO Police Department announces an opening for the position of Police Officer. Employees assigned to the Patrol Division are responsible for responding to all calls received through the communications network from an outside emergency services source or self- initiated, enforcing all federal, state, and county laws, and City Ordinances. Standard Duties include the following: * Performs general police duties, processes, or operations as well as specialized police assignments for the protection of life and property through the enforcement of Federal and State laws as well as municipal ordinances. * Provides training to other law enforcement officers. * Responds to radio dispatched calls for service. * Observes, analyzes, and evaluates situations to determine appropriate action. * Monitors and directs traffic and crowd control activities and intervenes as necessary to preserve the peace. * Arrests, detains, and apprehends a variety of offenders/suspects by use of necessary physical means. * Conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations of crimes and traffic incidents; interviews witnesses, collects and preserves evidence. * Performs prolonged walking or standing while patrolling on foot. * Pursues suspects on foot involving running, climbing, jumping, and maneuvering under, over, or around obstacles. * Cares for injured and administers basic emergency medical aid. * Reads, interprets, and enforces Federal and State laws as well as municipal ordinances and traffic codes. * Prepares and presents clear and accurate written and oral reports. * Testifies in court when required. * Administers breathalyzer tests on suspected intoxicated persons in compliance with statutes and ordinances. * Observes, retains, and recalls people, places, and situations in detail. * Identifies and reports maintenance needs of assigned equipment. * Conducts police, safety, and drug education programs requiring personal presentations to various groups, schools, radio, and television audiences. * Performs duties requiring covert activities. * Operates police vehicles and other equipment such as radar detection devices, video equipment, copiers, MDT, etc. When not responding to calls for service, officer is expected to use self-directed work time in an efficient manner by self-initiating work on those tasks identified by supervisory personnel as priorities for this job position. * Demonstrates creativity regarding police related problems. * Arrives on time for all assigned shifts and activities and maintains regular attendance. * Deals effectively and courteously with fellow employees and the general public. * Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Minimum Requirements: United States Citizen. 21 years of age. Excellent physical condition; must be able to achieve and maintain a level of physical fitness that allows Officers to safely and competently perform the essential functions of the job. Pass a drug screen. Clean and professional appearance with no beards, goatees or other facial hair. High School Diploma or GED. Must meet one of the following: Possess Class A MO POST certification. Possess Class B MO POST certification with 30 semester hours from an accredited college or university and two years of full time law enforcement experience. Possess Class B MO POST certification with two years of active duty military service with an honorable discharge. Completion of an in-depth background investigation packet. Possess a valid Missouri Driver License May not have been convicted of, plead guilty or no contest to, or been diverted on a serious traffic violation within the past five years. Must not have been convicted of, had a conviction expunged for, or been placed on diversion by any state or federal agency for a felony crime. Must not have sold, distributed, manufactured or transported any illegal drug. Must not have used any illegal drug within the past 10 years with the exception of marijuana. Must not have used marijuana in the past 3 years. Be of good character, with no convictions of crimes involving moral turpitude to include certain misdemeanor offenses.
