Police Chief - City of Republic

PRIMARY PURPOSE The purpose of the position is to implement short and long-range goals for the department and establishing priorities and deadlines for improving law enforcement services. Successful performance in this position assures the smooth operation of the department and adequate delivery of police services and enhances the public’s image of the City of Republic. Responsible for directing the operations of the Republic Police Department, including coordinating the internal and external activities of the department to ensure the safety and protection of life and property. 1. Responsible for embodying, encouraging, and leading the department on City and Police Department mission, vision, and values. 2. Promotes an organizational work environment where business practices, decisions, and work assignments are aligned with the city’s vision, mission, and core values. 3. Assembles necessary resources to solve a broad range of programmatic and systemic problems in the delivery of police services. 4. Plans and collaborates with regional police executives on public safety issues. 5. Represents the city and police department locally, regionally, and statewide. 6. Serves on boards, commissions, and councils regarding criminal justice and governmental services. 7. Presents information and participates in discussions with the City Council, City Administration, executive leadership team, citizen groups, professional organization members, individuals, and others on city-wide issues. 8. Provides effective leadership in planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating all police activities including line operations, auxiliary services, training and efficient resource allocation and management. 9. Serves as an effective and contributing member of the executive leadership team by providing input and counsel to the City Administrator on a wide range of community and organization-wide topics and issues. 10. Reviews and interprets information and renders decisions or opinions compliant with city, state, and federal policy, standards, and law. 11. Proposes, prepares, and implements new city code and policies and the revision of existing code and policies 12. Makes hiring decisions, reviews employee conduct, and takes disciplinary action as needed; prepares performance evaluations for directly supervised employees and approves evaluations for all other divisional employees. 13. Establishes policies and priorities for standard and emergency operations. 14. Provides fiscal management for the police department; monitors, reviews, and approves budgets for the department and monitors expenditures from those budgets. 15. Performs other duties as assigned.

TYPE:  Full Time

SALARY:  $80,000 - $95,000 DOQ.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Education and Experience: Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Police Science, Criminal Justice Administration or a law enforcement related field. Master’s Degree in Police Science, Criminal Justice Administration or a law enforcement related field is preferred. Graduate of the FBI National Academy or Southern Police Institute preferred. Must have seven years of prior police experience, of which at least three years must have been in a supervisory upper management level position with a Police Department. Work experience may be considered in lieu of education. Licensing/Certification Requirements: • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Missouri State Driver's License. • Must be able to obtain POST certification as a law enforcement officer by the Missouri Department of Public Safety within one year of appointment. • Must be able to maintain firearms certification.
